Why is Coca-Cola the number 1 brand in the world? Because people pay for their advertising…. I wanna be like them when I grow up! It’s beautiful how you can buy hapiness!
When “Google Adwords” gets it WRONG
We all know that paid search is a beautiful thing. It’s mano-a-mano-arm-wrestling kind of advertising. It’s simple, the advertiser willing to pay more for a click on a word gets to show his/her ad…. You can’t pay, you can’t show…
If you’re familiar with the Adwords scene you know how expensive a click for a generic word can be, they can get close to $5 per click. Now imagine the amount of clicks a word like “parenting” can get… A lot right? Expensive….
We all know Huggies®, that beautiful Kimberly-Clark brand that embraces everything cute and happy about being a parent and dealing with toddlers… And we’ve all heard about that youtube video gone viral where a father shoots his daughter’s laptop (here’s the link if you haven’t seen it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kl1ujzRidmU).
Now, how do you think Huggies® feels about having its brand be the “Official Sponsor” of Crazy-Dad-With-A-Shotgun? 5 dollar clicks for that beautiful image of a shotgun surrounded by a pretty purple banner ad asking you to send in your Potty Dance video…
So what’s Google trying to say… Shoot your kid cause he’s a big kid now?!
What would you do if this were your brand? Google is the best thing since Coca Cola, but this time (and with Google Buzz and Google +) they got it wrong!!!!
Beware of the Oops Adword…
The “Creative Riders” strike again. This time, beer and Mr., I mean, Ms. Tyler Perry are the victims… Do you ever think about what happens to your advertising after it’s up?
I just moved to New York City and while getting used to the wait for trains I started noticing that if any of the ads on the subway stations had any loose ends, some very creative subway riders would tie them up. If you’ve ever worked in an advertising agency yo know that the planning of most out-of-home advertising is thought out from creative to production to media to installation. But, what happens to your advertising after you put it up?
Ironically, the campaign that has engaged most of these Creative Riders (that’s what we’ll call creative subway riders from now on) is the Mad Men season 5 campaign. Just a white background and a falling man leave room for creativity in every station!
Have you ever played Scrabble? Well Creative Riders have too. Don’t you think that using the letters of the ad itself to alter the message is just pure genius!? Look at the Master Card campaign and see how much difference one single letter can make to what you’re trying to say.
The last picture is a little bonus, cause, don’t we all believe news are just truths coexisting with profitable lies?
Till’ next time, and thank you to all the Creative Riders out there… you should put all of these pieces in your portfolios!
